As the flag carrier of Germany, Lufthansa is set to celebrate Oktoberfest onboard select flights, and within its Munich lounges. The celebrations will involve crews being dressed in traditional Bavarian outfits. Additionally, Barvarian delicacies will be served in the airline’s 12 Munich lounges.
With a huge base at Munich, Lufthansa has a tradition of celebrating each year during Oktoberfest. While last year the airline purchased specially designed kegs which could be safely “tapped” even in the pressurised aircraft cabin. However, it seems as though this year’s celebrations will be slightly more low key. One of the key parts of Lufthansa’s yearly traditions is the traditional dress which staff don once a year. Munich’s passenger support agents have the option to wear traditional dress, however, on certain flights all crew will be wearing traditional Barvarian dress. This will see men wearing short lederhosen with dark blue vests. Meanwhile, the ladies will wear dirndls which are dark blue with silver-grey aprons. The uniforms are being made for Lufthansa by Angermaier, a company based in Munich. Angermaier specialises in designing and making traditional Bavarian clothes.
There will be a couple of long haul flights which will have crew wearing traditional dress. Additionally, one Lufthansa CityLine crew will swap uniforms for the whole period of Oktoberfest. The flights guaranteed to have uniforms swapped are:
- LH277 will depart from Munich (MUC) at 19:15 on Monday (23rd September), arriving in Beijing (PEK) at 10:35 the next day. The flight will be operated by an Airbus A380.
- LH452 will depart from Munich (MUC) at 12:05 on Thursday, October 3rd, arriving in Los Angeles (LAX) at 15:05. The flight will also be operated by an Airbus A380.
Additionally, selected CityLine flights from Munich will feature the limited time uniform. Lufthansa hasn’t released a schedule of the flights, however, the cities have been confirmed. Passengers flying to Amsterdam, Lyon, Gdansk, Milan, Sofia, Brussels, Ancona, Belgrade, Warsaw, Cologne, and Münster have a chance of the Oktoberfest experience.
Passengers utilising any of Lufthansa’s 12 lounges in Munich will also notice the celebrations. Every lounge will have some common items. In fact, Lufthansa estimates it will hand out “4,000 kilograms of Leberkäs’ will be served, along with over 38,000 pretzels and approximately 750 kilograms of Weißwurst sausages.”
The business and first class lounges will also have special menus available, however, these are set to differ across the class of travel. https://simpleflying.com/lufthansa-a380-barvaria-oktoberfest/
